Coming to the Lake District? Why not complement your stay with some exciting outdoor activities or learn key survival and bushcraft techniques with a Back to Basics Bushcraft course. Prices from £25 for a half day activity or £50 for 2 half day or a full days activities.You don't have to be staying with Long Valley Yurts to book onto these activities. All welcome.

We offer great days in the mountains and on the Lakes for anyone with an adventurous spirit. Huge amounts of fitness or skill are not required; just enthusiasm and lots of energy! We are ideally located to offer a variety of outdoor adventures to suit all age groups, individuals, groups and families giving you a fantastic opportunity to see Lake District from an entirely different perspective.

All activities are run by highly qualified and experienced instructors
and includes all specialist safety equipment. Please note under 18’s
must be accompanied by their legal parent or guardian.
Rock Climbing - Half Day

The Great Langdale Valley has to be one of the finest Rock Climbing venues in the country. There is enough rock climbing here to keep even the keenest climber busy for many years. Our rock climbing activity offers an exciting, challenging activity for all abilities. You will learn how to belay, learn some new skills and have the chance to test yourself against increasingly more challenging climbs. Great views and lots of fun for all are guaranteed.

Abseiling - Half Day

This is an amazing activity for pushing your boundaries and conquering fears! Abseiling involves lowering yourself down a rock face using ropes that are set in place. You are in control of your own decent. An exciting, challenging activity that anybody can do.

For the best abseiling in Cumbria (and arguably the country) we use the old slate quarry at Hodge Close, a truly atmospheric place for abseiling with stunning views over the Lakeland Fells. Here you can experience an abseil of up to 150ft and experience abseiling in a truly stunning environment. Experienced instructors will coach you on abseiling technique before ‘going off the edge’ yourself.

Gorge Scrambling - Half Day
ghyll scrambling in the lake district
The wetter the better for this activity. This fun packed half day activity will see you climbing, scrambling, wading, sliding, swimming and maybe even jumping your way up an amazing mountain Gorge. It’s physical and exciting, and everyone’s favorite! If you have never tried this before it’s a must do activity when you are in the Lakes.

How Tricky: ghyll scrambling course lake district No experience needed. Ideal for all abilities – children from 5 upwards welcome.
Do we need special kit?: No, trainers or walking type shoes are great, as are wellies. You’ll need a swimming costume and big towel! Hot showers available after. All specialist equipment is included.

Mountain Biking - Half Day

There are exciting Mountain Bike tracks opening up all over the country, which offer a great day out. Our expert instructors will use their local knowledge to guide you on some of the Lakes brilliant single track routes, teaching you some skills and techniques along the way giving you a fun and safe day out.

How Tricky: mountain biking the lake district (You should be fairly happy on a bike, reasonable fitness and balance is ideal)
Do we need special kit?: You will get hot, so light clothes are good. A small rucksack for water, nibbles and a waterproof is useful. Bikes will need to be hired at extra cost or bring your own bike.

Canoeing - Half Day

There aren’t many better ways to enjoy the Lake District that sat in a Canadian Canoe in the middle Windermere, Englands largest Lake. See if you can spot Bownessie, Windermere’s answer to the Loch Ness Monster! Sit and admire the stunning scenery that surrounds you, explore the secret beaches and coves on its shoreline or get involved in some fun Canoeing games.

How Tricky: canoeing courses lake district No experience needed. Ideal for all abilities – children from 4 upwards welcome. (Being able to swim helps, but is not essential).
Do we need special kit?: All specialist equipment is included. You may get wet…so swimming costume under old clothes and fleece/warm clothing for top is advisable. Hot showers available after.
Moonlit Canoe Trips
Moonlit Canoe Trips
Why not book onto one of our moonlit canoeing trips from Low Wray National Trust Campsite. Enjoy paddling on Windermere the full moon lighting up the mountains and shimmering off the water. We finish the activity with an open fire and hot chocolate and marshmallows back at Low Wray. This is a really special opportunity to experience the Lake District in a truly unique way.

Easter Egg Hunts by Canoe
Easter Egg Hunt
Staying in the Lake between the 29th March and 16th April? Then why not book onto a fun Easter Egg Hunt on Windermere. You will be provided with clues which take you to all sorts of places and will lead you to the hidden stash of Easter eggs. Fun for all.

Mountain Day - Full Day

The Lake District has the highest peaks in England and some of the highest in the UK. With soaring ridge lines and mighty crags, its makes an inspiring and exhilarating place to explore. But it isn’t all big hills; there are hidden valleys and tiny tarns of stunning beauty all waiting to be discovered.

We offer a range of courses to help you scale the biggest peaks or find that perfect place, un-changed since Wainwright first described it. Our days are set at your pace and based around the needs and aspirations of the group on the day.

Each mountain day will be different dependent on the group and will include, back to basic navigation skills, potential for ridge scrambling and guiding through some of the more remote areas the Lake District has to offer.

How Tricky: No experience required, reasonable fitness is ideal.
Do we need special kit?:
  • Small Rucksack.
  • Long trousers.
  • Long sleeved base layer.
  • Long sleeved mid-layer.
  • Thicker fleece type top.
  • Hat and gloves.
  • Waterproof trousers and coat.
  • Packed Lunch.
  • Flask of hot drink.
  • Water 1 litre minimum.
  • Any medication you may need to administer to yourself such as an Asthma Inhaler, sun cream.
  • A torch.
  • Sturdy hill walking footwear.
Price: £45 per person includes a map to take away with you at the end of the day.

Make a day of it
Why not mix and match your activities and for example go Canoeing in the morning and Ghyll Scrambling in the afternoon. No problem.

A half days activity is £25 per person or if booking 2 or more activities at the same time £50 per person.

Please note the prices quoted are for bookings made both in advance and on site through Long Valley Yurts and are only available during the following dates:

23rd May - 2nd June
18th July - 1st September
24th October - 3rd November

Not visiting the Lakes during these dates, but still want outdoor activities or a Back to Basics Bushcraft course, no problem. Here is a list of prices outside of these date:
