Staying with us or at the National Trust Campsites? Why not complement your stay with some exciting outdoor activities or learn key survival and bushcraft techniques with a Back to Basics Bushcraft course.

The Lakes is an amazing outdoor playground. There are rocks to climb, rivers to swim, lakes to paddle, forests to mountain bike and amazing high places to abseil. It can also provide a hearty meal and a comfortable bed if you know where and what to look for.

We love getting out and having tonnes of fun and offer great days in the mountains and on the Lakes for anyone with an adventurous spirit. Huge amounts of fitness or skill are not required; just enthusiasm and lots of energy!

Pick and mix the activities described below to make your perfect day out. We can offer both half or full day sessions, or you can book onto two different activities to make the most out of your day. We are ideally located to offer a variety of outdoor adventures to suit all age groups, individuals, groups and families giving you a fantastic opportunity to see Lake District from an entirely different perspective.

In order we can provide activities to the highest standard we work with Quest4Adventure and Back to Basics Bush Craft.

Activites We Offer:


All activities are run by highly qualified and experienced instructors and includes all specialist safety equipment. Please note under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult.
Rock Climbing

It’s such a natural thing to climb and the feeling of getting to the top of a challenging rock face is amazing. All our instructors are mad keen about rock climbing and we guarantee you’ll have a great day.

How Tricky: rock climbing course lake district (No experience required, basic fitness is ideal)
How long do we need?: Half day or a full day for the super keen.
Do we need special kit?: No, trainers or walking type shoes are great.
Price: £25 per person for a ½ day, or if booking 3 or more person at once £22.50 per person.
Abseiling

This is an amazing activity for pushing your boundaries and conquering fears! Everybody who gets to the bottom of any abseil has a huge grin on their face, and this is an activity that anybody can do.

How Tricky: rock climbing course lake district (No experience required, basic fitness is ideal)
How long do we need?: Half day.
Do we need special kit?: No, trainers or walking type shoes are great.
Price: £25 per person for a ½ day, or if booking 3 or more person at once £22.50 per person.

Ghyll Scrambling

This half day activity will see you climbing, scrambling, wading and maybe even jumping your way up an amazing mountain Ghyll (stream in normal language!). It’s physical and exciting, and everyone’s favorite!

How Tricky: ghyll scrambling course lake district (No experience required, reasonable fitness and balance is ideal).
How long do we need?: Half day.
Do we need special kit?: No, trainers or walking type shoes are great, as are wellies. You’ll need a swimming costume and big towel!
Price: £25 per person for a ½ day, or if booking 3 or more person at once £22.50 per person.

Mountain Biking

There are exciting Mountain Bike tracks opening up all over the country, which offer a great day out. Our expert instructors will use their local knowledge to guide you on some of the Lakes brilliant single track routes, teaching you some skills and techniques along the way giving you a fun and safe day out.

How Tricky: mountain biking the lake district (You should be fairly happy on a bike, reasonable fitness and balance is ideal).
How long do we need?: Half day.
Do we need special kit?: You will get hot, so light clothes are good. A small rucksack for water, nibbles and a waterproof is useful. (Bike and Helmet hire is included)
Price: £30 per person for a ½ day, or if booking 3 or more person at once £22.50 per person. This includes bicycle hire and all necessary safety equipment.
Canoeing

What better way to enjoy the Lake District than on its Lakes. Our open canoes are friendly, comfortable and lots of fun. You can get wet or not its up to you and our experienced instructors will make sure you have a great time on the water, whatever your energy levels!

How Tricky: canoeing courses lake district (No experience needed. Being able to swim helps, but is not essential).
How long do we need?: Half day.
Do we need special kit?: You may get wet…so swimming costume under old clothes and lots of fleeces on top is good. All specialist equipment is included.
Price: £25 per person for a ½ day, or if booking 3 or more person at once £22.50 per person.
Mountain Day

The Lake District has the highest peaks in England and some of the highest in the UK. With soaring ridge lines and mighty crags, its makes an inspiring and exhilarating place to explore. But it isn’t all big hills; there are hidden valleys and tiny tarns of stunning beauty all waiting to be discovered.

We offer a range of courses to help you scale the biggest peaks or find that perfect place, un-changed since Wainwright first described it. Our days are set at your pace and based around your needs and aspirations of the group on the day.

Each mountain day will be different dependent on the group and will include, back to basic navigation skills, potential for ridge scrambling and guiding through some of the more remote areas the Lake District has to offer.

An exciting and challenging day whatever your needs.

How Tricky: (No experience required, reasonable fitness is ideal).
How long do we need?: Full day only.
Do we need special kit?:
  • Small Rucksack.
  • Long trousers.
  • Long sleeved base layer.
  • Long sleeved mid-layer.
  • Thicker fleece type top.
  • Hat and gloves.
  • Waterproof trousers and coat.
  • Spare mid-layer.
  • Packed Lunch.
  • Flask of hot drink.
  • Water 1 litre minimum.
  • Any medication you may need to administer. to yourself such as an Asthma Inhaler, sun cream.
  • A torch can be useful.
  • Sturdy hill walking footwear.
Price: £40 per person for a ½ day, or if booking 3 or more person at once £35 per person.
Back to Basics Bushcraft Courses

making your own tools
A fun filled full day activity with a difference. This activity gives you an insight into the world of bushcraft and key survival techniques. During the day you will learn about and put into practice a variety of bushcraft and survival techniques including:

  • Shelter building.
  • Food - foraging & prep and cooking over a camp fire.
  • Fire - flint and steel, fire by friction.
  • Water - finding and making safe for consumption.
  • Knives - safe use and maintenance.
  • Tree identification and uses.
  • Woodland crafts.
  • Cordage.
  • Navigation.

How long do we need?: Full day.
Do we need special kit?: You will need to bring with you the following kit:
  • Hat.
  • Gloves.
  • Waterproof jacket & trousers.
  • Warm jumper or fleece.
  • Suitable trousers - recommended combat trousers (no jeans).
  • Sturdy footwear.
  • Water bottle.
  • A packed lunch or something to cook on the open fire.
Price: £40 per person for a full day

Make a day of it.

Why not mix and match your activities and for example go Canoeing in the morning and Ghyll Scrambling in the afternoon. No problem.

A full days activity is £40 per person or if booking 3 or more persons at the same time only £35 per person (excluding the Back to Basics Bushcraft course).

Please note the prices quoted are for bookings made both in advance and on site through Long Valley Yurts and are only available during the following dates;

2nd April - 19th April
30th April - 3rd May
28th May - 7th June
2nd July - 6th September
22nd October - 31st October

Not staying during these dates, but still want outdoor activities or a Back to Basics Bushcraft course, no problem.

If you are staying with us and like the sound of any of the activities listed but your stay doesn’t fall into the above dates, don’t worry, we can still run this for you. Please contact us and we can organise this for you.
